Projects in progress

There hasn’t been a lot of ‘completing’ around here this week, but there are a few projects on the go and some ideas for writing rattling around in my head. Projects in progress include Waldorf baby dolls, fabric selection for recovering some mid-century chairs, and summer clothes for Baby Amy using the Twig  Tale ‘Barefoot… Continue reading Projects in progress

Seagull bird mobile for baby

The flock of felt seagulls I created have taken flight! I made them into a bird mobile for baby Amy. She studies them when she’s on her changing table, watching them drift and spin in slow circles above her. They are suspended from the inner ring of an embroidery hoop. The ring helped me to… Continue reading Seagull bird mobile for baby

Baby’s first Waldorf doll

Baby Amy has started to enjoy the simple Waldorf cuddly doll I made I made before she was born. She and her cousin, six weeks younger, each have one with slightly different hats. Amy has begun to suck her fingers or thumb when she’s lying quietly and often rubs her clothes between her fingers at… Continue reading Baby’s first Waldorf doll

Denim whale and felt seagull soft toys

I recently made this denim whale and flock of felt seagulls for our baby. The whale was based on a design by a talented Finnish woman, and the seagulls were inspired by some artwork I purchased from a clever friend, Greg Straight.  See the mobile I made using the seagulls, here. When we discovered a baby was on the way… Continue reading Denim whale and felt seagull soft toys

Sewing for baby – Waldorf cuddly dolls

These twin lovey dolls are for our baby and another who is due to arrive soon after. I made them in a Waldorf style, using wool rovings, recycled materials including super soft and cuddly velvet. The bodies are recycled from a green velvet dress that I used to wear in London. It was a really flattering fit (once upon a time… Continue reading Sewing for baby – Waldorf cuddly dolls

Making seagull toys from felt

Meet Swoop and Sheila, the first of a flock of seagulls I am making for a baby mobile. I couldn’t find any patterns for a soft toy seagull in flight (or any other sea birds for that matter), so I drafted my own. These two are sightly different, as I’m trying out variations on the… Continue reading Making seagull toys from felt

Fly away my little lovelies … meet Hena, Marama, Mahina, Lune and friends. These textile Puriri moths are flying away from my studio and I will miss them so! Doll’s cradle and bedding

Little C loves her Carmen doll. Her reaction when she opened the gift was beautiful – her face lit up and she grabbed the doll for a kiss. Carmen was carried around the birthday party, tucked under an arm or sat on her lap to watch proceedings. Her mum tells me that in the days since… Continue reading Doll’s cradle and bedding
